General medical consultation in Heidelberg

Would you like to discuss health concerns, better understand existing test results or clarify the most appropriate next step? Dr Michael Pees takes time to consider your concerns and medical history and provide an individual medical assessment.

What you can discuss at your consultation

You do not need to have a particular treatment in mind before your appointment. The consultation gives you time to clarify your concerns and discuss what is medically relevant. Bodywise focuses on preventive medicine, weight management and aesthetic medicine.

Understanding existing results

You have laboratory results, a medical letter or measurements and would like to understand their significance better. The discussion helps clarify what the records show and which questions remain open.

Assessing changes and symptoms

You may want to discuss changes in your ability to cope with physical exertion, for example, or questions about weight and metabolism. The course of events, accompanying circumstances and previous examinations help determine which further assessment may be useful.

Discussing tests and treatment options

You would like to understand the purpose of an examination or which options may suit your concerns. Possible benefits, limitations and the implications for your individual situation are discussed.

Planning the next step

Sometimes the first step is to find the most appropriate approach: obtaining further records, monitoring changes or arranging a specialist examination. Dr Pees explains which care is available at Bodywise and when assessment by another medical specialty may be appropriate.

What happens during the medical consultation

  1. Your concerns and goals

You begin by discussing what is concerning you and which questions matter most to you. This includes how the situation has developed, previous treatments and your expectations for the appointment.

  2. Medical history and available information

Pre-existing conditions, medicines and existing findings are considered together. Depending on your concerns, family risks, sleep, exercise or other aspects of everyday life may also be relevant. The role of a physical examination is assessed according to the specific clinical question.

  3. Medical assessment

Dr Pees explains which conclusions can already be drawn and where further information is needed. Together, you discuss whether an examination, follow-up or assessment by another medical specialty appears appropriate.

  4. The next steps

At the end, you agree how to proceed and which questions remain open for now. If further services may be appropriate, their scope and costs are discussed in advance. A consultation does not oblige you to undergo subsequent treatment.

Why a single result is not a diagnosis

An unusual laboratory result must be assessed alongside symptoms, other findings and previous measurements. Values outside the reference range can occur without disease. Conversely, a value within the range does not always rule out disease.

The reference range on your own laboratory report is also important. Comparison values can differ between laboratories and measurement methods. Please bring the complete report, including the date, units and reference ranges, if possible; older results can help show changes over time.

Which investigations are actually helpful?

Further diagnostics are guided by the clinical question. The key considerations are which additional information is needed and how the result would affect the next steps. Depending on the situation, a targeted follow-up may be appropriate; other findings require prompt further assessment.

The general consultation does not include a standard laboratory or check-up package. If examinations are needed, they are planned individually. Information about the practice's preventive focus is available under preventive healthcare and check-ups.

How to prepare for your appointment

You do not need to diagnose your symptoms yourself. Specific observations and records you already have are helpful.

Preparing for your appointmentWhat you can bring
Your most important questionsWrite down two or three points you particularly want to clarify during the appointment.
How things have developedWhen did the concern begin? What has changed? Are there situations in which symptoms become better or worse?
Relevant recordsMedical letters, laboratory reports and existing measurement logs, preferably dated. Choose records that are relevant to your concerns.
Medicines and other productsAn up-to-date medication plan or a list including doses. Also mention over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements.
Medical conditions and allergiesKnown conditions, intolerances and previous problems with treatments.

If any records are missing, let the practice know. Fasting is usually not necessary for a consultation alone. If an additional examination is arranged, you will receive separate instructions. Please do not change prescribed medication without medical advice.

What should be clear by the end of the discussion?

The aim is for you to understand the medical assessment and know what happens next. This includes uncertainties and limitations: not every concern can be fully resolved in a single appointment.

  • Which existing information is most relevant to your concerns?
  • Which options may be appropriate, and what are the arguments for and against each?
  • Are further results or follow-up appointments needed, and within what time frame?
  • What should you look out for in the meantime, and whom can you contact if things change?

Please speak up if an explanation remains unclear or a recommendation does not fit your situation. Your questions and priorities form part of the decision.

Frequently asked questions about medical consultations

Can I book an appointment without a specific diagnosis?

Yes. You can attend with an open question about your health. Briefly describe your concerns when booking, if possible, so the practice can assess which appointment type is appropriate.

Can I discuss existing test results and medical reports?

Yes. Please bring the relevant records as fully as possible. Whether further examinations are needed depends on the clinical question and the information already available.

Are laboratory tests included in the price?

No fixed laboratory package is listed for this consultation. Additional tests and their costs are discussed separately with you if needed.

Can patients with German statutory health insurance attend?

Yes, on a self-paying basis. Bodywise is a private practice; the consultation is billed privately.

Do I have to undergo treatment afterwards?

No. The purpose of the consultation is medical assessment. After receiving the relevant information, you decide how to proceed; depending on the findings, follow-up or further assessment may also be recommended.

Is a general consultation the same as a check-up?

No. The consultation can help clarify whether preventive examinations are useful and which ones may be appropriate. The scope and cost of a check-up are planned separately.

Can I have the consultation by video?

Bodywise offers video consultations as a separate service. Please check with the practice beforehand whether your concerns are suitable and which terms and fees apply.

What should I do if I have acute symptoms?

For life-threatening symptoms such as severe shortness of breath, severe chest pain or unconsciousness, call 112 immediately. For urgent, non-life-threatening problems outside practice hours in Germany, call 116117. If you need urgent medical help, do not wait for a routine consultation appointment.
